PARTICIPATION OF DISTINGUISHED REPRESENTATIVES OF SCIENCE AND CULTURE IN THE WORK OF ZEMSTVO SELF-GOVERNMENT IN RUSSIA OF THE SECOND HALF OF 19th - EARLY 20th CENTURY

Abstract:

With regard to the actualisation of human factor and the role of an individual in history, the article considers the conditions, features and some results of the participation of prominent Russian citizens in the life of the zemstvo self-government in Russia of the second half of 19th  early 20th century. Based on the analysis of various types of historical documents, the author reveals the degree of personal in-volvement in the work of zemstva for a number of prominent people in the field of science and culture who proved themselves before, after or during their work in the zemstvo and whose names glorified Russia. The main methodo-logical approach in this study was a multidisciplinary one, that made it possible, from the perspective of humanities in general and a number of historical disciplines in particular, to achieve set goals and objectives. The article analys-es some features, conditions, and periods when individual representatives of Russian science and culture were in-volved in zemstvo life in Russia of the second half of the 19th  early 20th century.
