This article is devoted to the creative work by Russian painter Nikolai Gee, his Evangeline paint-ings — «The Last Supper», «Golgotha» and «Maria Magdalena» and etc. The author finds out the meaning of his work in the art of the 19th century. The author analyzes the critical articles by Stasov, Prakhov etc. In conclusion the author considers that N.Gee had a great contribution in the de-velopment of Russian art and gave new ideas to the traditional religious themes.
